CIRA: Center for Integrating Research and Action @ UNC-CH

Critical Issues

To create an organizing focus for various cycles of funding and programming, CIRA is experimenting with annual thematic emphases on particular social, economic, cultural, or political issues. The intent to keep these themes broadly defined by the participants themselves, meaning that community organizations, movements, and individual activists and leaders may choose to self-identify their work with a particular theme.

Sustainable and Alternative Economies

The theme for the first cycle is sustainable and alternative economies. By this, CIRA aims to bring together people and groups working on energy, currency, development, employment, and resource exchange and distribution strategies that create viable and sustainable alternatives to the mainstream, capitalist market.
